Visit the BESIX Group sites during Open Sites Day on 7 May 2023

On Sunday 7 May 2023, the construction industry in Belgium is opening many doors to the general public. From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., visitors have the opportunity to get an overview of the sector and discover the expertise present in the Belgian construction landscape. Of course, BESIX Group is participating in this construction event par excellence! For this edition, visitors can take a look behind the scenes of no less than five construction sites on which BESIX and its affiliates are working:

Zeebrugge – Dry dock Scheldt Tunnel: 📍 Koffieweg , 8380 Zeebrugge

As part of the COTU consortium, BESIX is participating in the realisation of the Scheldt Tunnel which is part of the Oosterweel link in Antwerp, one of the largest infrastructure and urban development projects ever undertaken in Belgium. To build the tunnel, a total of eight tunnel elements are being built in a single dock in the port of Zeebrugge before being towed via the North Sea to Antwerp, where they will be ultimately sunk.

Brussels – Circular renovation Quartier Vandeuren: 📍 rue Jean Vandeuren 3-7, 1050 Ixelles

The entire block in the Quartier Vandeuren in Brussels is currently being restored by Jacques Delens and Artes TWT. It includes the renovation of 130 social housing units. In order to respect the heritage, the project provides for the conservation of the original façade, to which new elements are being added. In addition, the project incorporates a circular approach and reuses materials for the creation of the surroundings, finishes and overhangs.

Antwerp – AP Hogeschool: 📍 Slachthuislaan 70, 2060 Antwerp

Vanhout is responsible for the construction of a new campus for the AP Hogeschool on the former site of the Antwerp slaughterhouses. The project aims to replace the old iconic halls with a brand-new, almost energy-neutral, high-tech campus to house courses for 2,500 students.

Dison – Production hall renovation & extension: 📍 rue du Progrès 5, 4820 Dison

PMSweet, the Belgian company specialised in the production of macaroons, bought a production hall in the industrial zone of Dison to meet the growing demand for its products. Wust is participating in the complete renovation and extension of this production hall. It will cover an area of 17,000 m² to accommodate the new production unit and will include a 62-metre-long oven with a capacity of 10 macaroons a second!

Spa – Swimming pool renovation: 📍 Avenue Amédée Hesse 11, 4900 Spa

In Spa, Wust is participating in the renovation of the municipal swimming pool. The aim of the works is to completely restore the pool in order to welcome swimmers in a modern and environmentally friendly way. The renovation of the pool is a real technical challenge for this new infrastructure.
