BESIX Group is active in the water sector in its local market and abroad through its specialized department BESIX Environment and several group entities such as Socogetra, West Construct, Vanhout, and Wust in Belgium, and Six Construct in the Middle East. The team continues to implement its “one-stop shop” business philosophy, designing innovative, cutting-edge solutions and integrating appropriate technologies from various specialist vendors to residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
The full suite of services on offer include the design, engineering, execution, startup and commissioning of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), treatment capacity upgrades (MBR, MBBR etc.), sludge drying and valorization (digestion, biogas re-use, …) and the polishing of treated effluent to near potable water standards (ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, …), pumping stations and hydroelectric installations, and the installation and maintenance of underground pipes and sewage disposal systems (collectors, gravity pipes or pressure, PVC distribution networks, cast iron pipes,…).
BESIX Environment focuses on the creation of byproducts such as biogas, biofuel, biosolids, heat recovery and recycled water. Recoverable resources and energy optimization are a must in times of rapid demographic changes and a global transition to green energy.
In this matter, the process team always looks for new and future sustainable technologies like green energy production (hydroelectric, cogeneration,…) while the design team uses modeling & simulation software to find and select the most sustainable technologies and solutions. Finding smart, cost-effective and sustainable answers to water and energy challenges is BESIX Environment’s ultimate goal.
Synergies within the Group enable BESIX Environment to provide a one-stop-shop solution for the water and energy market, covering every aspect of the construction life cycle.
To the conventional EPC type water projects, BESIX has successfully developed long term concessions (PPP type) and has entered into long term operational and maintenance contracts. Therefore, the DBFM activities range from small-scale installations to large water treatment plants and concessions, capable of processing up to 1.5 million EH.
